According to the world practice, construction of high-rise buildings is a natural stage on the way to the development of large cities conditioned by the shortage of areas suitable for construction, and high cost of lands, especially in the central districts of the city.

A significant part of modern high-rise buildings is designed and constructed according to frame-monolithic construction technology. The monolithic high-rise building technology has not been so popular in Ukraine before. Nowadays, the frame-monolithic construction technology is a revolutionary transfer of construction industrialization to individual projects; it allows faster, more reliable, and cheaper construction and offers simultaneously different decisions, which have been appreciated by Ukrainian builders and recognized by the Customers.

The basic condition for the construction of high-rise monolithic frame buildings is to ensure their stability and reliability.

Monolithic construction is currently one of the most advanced technologies in our country, and the number of buildings constructed according to this technology increases every year.

Buildings construction according to monolithic technology is preferred due to a range of causes:

  • Architects and designers obtained the flexibility and freedom in taking design decisions as well as the possibility to diversify them.
  • The spatial framework of the structures made it possible to distribute the loads more evenly over the entire area of the building, in comparison with the articulation of the plates according to the scheme of the prefabricated frame. This enabled a significant decrease in material consumption in comparison with the structures of precast reinforced concrete. The demand for steel was reduced on average by 7-20%, and the demand for concrete was decreased by 15%, reducing thus the overall cost of construction.
  • The cost for foundation construction got cheaper due to the loading decrease of the building above ground level.
  • The whole production cycle is transferred to the construction site. In precast house construction, products are manufactured at the plant, transported to the site, and mounted there. In the manufacturing of precast structures, shrinkage allowance is specified at all stages of the process; this requires additional time during joints finishing. If monolithic construction is performed according to the well-established pattern, buildings are constructed within a shorter time period. The construction process is simplified if a concrete unit may be arranged directly at the site.
  • High-quality work excludes the need for wet processes. Walls and ceilings are almost ready for finishing.
  • Monolithic construction provides an almost seamless structure. Indicators of thermal and sound insulation increase due to this fact.
  • Monolithic structures are durable.  The set design lifetime of up-to-date panel assemblable houses is 50 years, whilst the lifetime of buildings constructed according to monolithic technology is not less than 200 years.
  • Due to this technology, the labor force is cheaper, and labor should be paid only once.
  • The modern structure of cast formwork allows monolithic building construction all year round.
  • Due to their process features, the monolithic buildings are more resistant to man-made and other unfavorable environmental impacts, they are more seismically resistant.

Rapid development and growth of modern cities and an increase in the number of storeys of constructed buildings complicated configuration of their structural components, and higher grades of concrete and reinforcing steel are used and improved. As a result, monolithic buildings are 15-20% lighter than brick ones. However, the lightweight design reduces material consumption for foundations and reduces this cost. It should be noted that the annual production of concrete for the construction of monolithic structures for various buildings exceeds 1.5 billion m3, thus, over 50% of concrete produced in the whole world is spent for their construction.
